Pissed Vista 64 'program stopped working' message

Hi Guys, I would like your help. I bought a dell vostro 200 and installed vista ultimate 64bit onto. Now i have been getting many problems.

Firstly Internet explorer 7 comes up with the error message 'program stopped working' whenever i'm on it, i did some reasearch found out vista and IE7 have problems so i then install mozilla firefox thinkin its just IE7. but know i'm getting difficulties in downloading anything, windows live, messenger, limewire etc you name it

i also installed avast (downloaded off another comp, put on flash drive) but everytime i open that i get the same damn 'program stopped working' message'

its driving me crazy

What OS was on the laptop prior to installing Vista?

What kind of "difficulties" are you having with downloads?

You can try this when you get the "program stopped working" but I don't think it will resolve your issue.
1. Click Start Menu
2. Click All Programs
3. Right click on the application you're trying to run
4. Select Properties
5. Click on the Compatibility tab
6. Check the checkbox next to "Run in compability mode for:"
7. Select XP SP 2 from the dropdown
8. Click "Apply"
9. Click "OK"
10. Then open up the application as you normally would.

Hi, its a dell desktop a refurbished one. it didnt have any OS installed before

ok in terms of downloading i get different probs
- with live messneger it will fail to download
- limewire installation doesnt complete due to 'program stop working' error

i just downloaded realplayer, this time it downlaoded, installed but everytime i close the app the 'program stopped working' error flags up again

Motherboard drivers, audio drivers, video drivers.

Go to the manufacturers website to find the latest ones.

I checked Dell's site for drivers for the Vostro 200 desktop. The only Vista drivers they show are for 32Bit.
They may work.
