Recovery Discs

Recently bought an Acer 6930G Laptop and as instructed the first thing I did was to make some back up recovery discs, 2 in this case.

Subsequently I noticed that the F11 key did not do anything when I tried to get it to give me full screen. The option under View works fine.

I returned to PC World and they told me I would have to run the recovery discs before they would look at the hardware.

You will gather my knowledge is not immense when I tell you I have never used back up disks before. However after some time investigating what to do . I put the first DVD into the laptop and chose Restore in the Acer facility.

The machine went into lengthy action, giving all the signs that it was being restored to it's original condition, ie. as it was when I purchased it. And it seems to have done just that.

My concern is that I was never prompted to insert the second back up disk, and haven't done so.

Everything seems to be working ok, is there something I don't understand or should have done, it seems strange to me that the second disc was apparently not needed

Help for a techno idiot would be very much appreciated.

Can you post what, if any, files are found on the second disk? I assume the two disks are both standard 4.7 GB dvds. You typically need a dual layer dvd to do a restore disk for vista as they tend to be over 6 GB.

Hi Kilgoretrout, many thanks for your response to my post, please accept my apologies for not responding sooner, I have had several problems to deal with including additional ones on my new laptop.

The tale of my Acer laptop is that afer posting here , I realised that only one channel was working when I connected external speakers, so I took it back to PC World and they replaced it with another laptop.

Two days after getting the new one I plugged in the external speaker jack....... guess what...... only one channel working again.

Back to PC World again..... I am now the pleased owner of a Sony Laptop with eveyrthing working.

Thanks for your offer of help, as you can see it'e not needed now

Regards Hajach
