Vista 32bit or 64bit?
Hi
I'm getting ready to get a new high performance computer. I run every Adobe product from Illustrator and Photoshop to InDesign and Premiere. In addition I fun some 3D animation software that pushes my computer to the wall. I also run the latest 3D games from Age of Conan and The Witcher to Tomb Raider 8. Which version of Vista should get 32 or 64 bit? What are the ramifications of going either way? Will I be able to run all my old software if I go with the 64 bit version? I really don't know how this affects things on my computer. Mike |

Looks like you'll want to maximize your RAM over the next year. Get 64 bit.
Some old software will not work with 64 bit. I have run across a few so far: Thomas the Tank Engine and some Learning Company software........so if you have young children and aren't yet sick of their old games - get 32 bit. My take: Some old stuff won't work with 64 bit right now, in a few years some new stuff won't work with 32 bit. Pick your poison.

Check to see if your programs will work on 64bit. Check their websites.
If they will, then get the 64 bit version.

I use 64 bit on my laptop and I haven't had any issues with programs not running correctly. Much faster than the 32 bit Home Premium.

I've tried 32 bit, both XP 32 and 64... Vista 64-bit by far was my favorite |

I've got an HP 32-bit desktop and laptop, both running Vista Home Premium w/SP1. My newest machine is an HP 64-bit model with the same OS. I've been a fan of Stardock products for several years now and made the transition to Vista much easier than many of the horror stories I've heard. I attribute that fact partially to the use of Stardock products.
That said, given the parameters you've mentioned, I strongly encourage you to go with a 64-bit machine. There's going to be some inevitable bumps--face it, the marketplace is still light on 64-bit-compatible software. Nevertheless, the future is going to be based on 64-bit systems--or some other hot platform we peons aren't privy to as yet. Stay tuned. . . . |
