Boot Problem plus Random characters in Bios
My Acer AST180-UA3508 computer running Windows Vista Home Basic Version 6.0 Build 6000
is refusing to boot normally though it will boot into Safe Mode. When I boot normally, I end up with a blank dark blue screen. When I enter the Bios setup, the characters/letters in the menu options are capitalized randomly as in "exIT wiTHout sAving". There are also som random characters such as the musical note symbol. The Bios is a Phoenix bios. I have tried reverting to the last sucessful boot, using system & startup restore, run check disk, rolled back the display driver, run the McAfee scan etc. with out success. Since the computer will boot into Safe Mode, I suspect this is a software problem but the weird capitalization in the Bios Setup makes me wonder. Would appreciate any advice. Thanks in advance. P.S. The only unusual thing that happened the last time with a normal boot was that I tried to move a data folder I had created in Pictures to another data folder I had created in Pictures. I got a message that I needed administrator priveleges to do it but even when I tried to move or rename it as an Administrator, it wouldn't work. Was able to what I wanted to do in Safe Mode. An earlier version of this post with less info was posted in Hardware. |
