Vista - IRQL NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL - RAM Issue?
Recently I got my new PC all assembled and working properly, however, I am having some troubles installing Windows Vista Business (64 bit). The Vista DVD boots up properly and installs correctly until it has to restart. Upon restart, however, while it is loading, Vista QUICKLY BSODs with a "Driver IRQL NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" error message. This flashes by so fast that I am unable to read it, and the only reason I was able to get the error from the screen was by getting really lucky taking a picture at the right moment with a digital camera.. Anyway, after doing research, I found that this may have something to do with the RAM, so I stole some RAM out of another computer and tried that in my PC, and... it worked! Vista installed correctly.
Here's my dillema. I prefer to use the OCZ RAM that was originally in my computer because I have 4gb (2x2GB) of it and only 2gb (1x2GB) of the Corsair RAM that I borrowed out of the other PC. I was wondering if there was any way I could fix this problem. Here are the links to the RAM I am mentioning: OCZ RAM I usually use - 2x2GB - Doesn't work with Vista: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820227334 Corsair RAM from other computer - 1x2GB - Works with Vista: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145184 Also, here are my specs: Windows Vista Business 64 Bit Intel Q6600 2.4ghz Quad Core Processor EVGA 780i Mobo EVGA GTX 260 GPU Corsair 650W PSU RAM is up above |

Make sure the voltage is correct at 2.1v for the OCZ.

Is the OCZ on the compatibility list for that MOBO? You could also look on the OZC or the EVGA forums/web sites to see if anyone else has had problems with that RAM on that MOBO.
Some folks seem to have a problem installing Vista with 4G's of RAM. Now that Vista is installed you could try the OCZ again. |

Well, I did a bunch of stuff (I know I should have done them one at a time), and it works.
1) Installed a Vista hotfix 2) Manually set all the RAM timings and voltages 3) Inserted second stick of RAM And lo and behold.. it works! Thanks for the help |

A lot of motherboards have trouble setting the voltage correctly on high end modules with >1.8v vDIMM voltages, I would say that was the problem.
