Error message popping up during XP install

My friend wanted me to install Windows XP Pro on his computer since he's sick and tired of his Vista install, but I seem to be hitting some bumps.

His is a MedionPC with Chipset MS-7501 2.1, AMD 780G.

It has 3 media slot drives at the front, Flash HS CF, MS/SD and SM respectively, he's adamant about keeping functionality of them.

So I've stuck my Windows XP Pro disc in, it comes up with a blue screen and says something about 3 Harddrives, which I'll assume are the Flash drives, since he only has one HDD.

So I physically disconnected the flashdrives, and now it comes up saying there's no HDD present, trying to proceed from either of these screens gives me a blue screen of death with very long error codes. I'm sorry I don't have more information on that, I don't have the PC right now.

Does anyone have any idea what might be happening? Is this the Flash drives fault, or is it Vista just trying anything to not be uninstalled?

Thanks

Look in the BIOS for an option to set the SATA drive in IDE mode. (i think its called that)
