Startup Error After a hardware upgrade
Hey all, I decided to upgrade a bunch of hardware on my pc today and I ran into some problems. I've swapped the mobo and the CPU before without a hitch, but this time went differently.
I swapped the mobo from a socket 939 to an AM2+, changed to a quad core processor (AMD 9950), and upgraded to a new pin type of RAM. So yeah, tons of new upgrades. Anyway, I kept the old hard drive but now windows will not boot up and I get the following error:
"Windows could not start. A recent hardware or software change may have caused this."
This may not be word for word but there are no more significant words. The message also suggests using the original vista cd to use the repair utility and I've tried that. Except now my DVD drive spins the disc, the word prompt blinks like its about to detect the spinning install disc, and then it just moves on again to the "Windows didn't start correctly, a recent hardware or software change may have caused this" screen. So it doesn't detect my cd even tho my BIOS is set to boot from the disc. Booting in safe mode or any of the other options such as "boot from last known good configuration" does not work. Period.. its weird.
Anyone have any suggestions?
