Windows 7 Beta
Public beta supposed to be released tomorrow. I'm tempted. Have an ESATA drive in an Capricorn enclosure that isn't doing much. I already dual boot-XP pro & Vista HP 64 so not sure how that would work. I've heard of some sort of virtual drive by MS. Wonder if you could load on that?

Downloaded it yesterday, tossed it on a spare SATA drive in my desktop, even got a product ID from microsoft. The only thing I found so far I don't care for is the "Homegroup" networking, and the auto generating password it creates. But other than that it is a fairly decent OS; so far, it also still has the UAC pop up very annoying, but I disabled it.
Also if you should download it and don't get a product ID, and want to extend the 30 day activation to 120 days, open a command prompt as administrator and type slmgr -rearm this will extend the activation

My home computer is just for fun and I find playing with OS betas fun. So, I backed up my data and did a clean install. It's clearly a beta with some glitches but it is absolutely stable with my desktop hardware. I was surprised at the driver support. It runs well for me. I loaded it onto my netbook, too. It runs well there, too, and is as fast, or as slow, as was WindowsXP. That's the nature of netbooks. If I get too eager and give it too many tasks it freezes up but I can go to task manager and close a couple of tasks and it keeps working.
So far, one week, I like it a lot. |

Windows 7 will install and run on VirtualBox (My settings are: HD - 10gig, RAM - 1gig, Video - 125 meg). I needed to install VirtualBox Guest Addition (in Vista Compatibility Mode) to get Internet connectivity.
