After I installed Vista Service Pack 1 my web cam stopped working on my HP dv9700 laptop. I didn't think to much thought at first because I hardly used the thing. Now it is making me go batty trying to get it to work.
First off I believe it is listed in my device manager as a Xerox WorkCentre Pro Scanner. I have tried to update the drivers to a Microsoft USB Video Device driver but the operation fails every time. It does not crash, but windows displays a message that reading: ----------- Windows has encountered a problem installing the driver software for your device. Windows found driver software for your device but encountered and error while attempting to install it. The device cannot start. (Code 10) ------------ The biggest reason I think that the Xerox Scanner is my web cam because the web cam for one is built in and I just simply haven't had a scanner attached to the laptop. Well if anyone have any suggestions on how to overwriting the scanner driver with actual web cam drivers I would love to know how. Any other suggestions would be great to! Anyone else ran into this? I have come across a lot of issues with Vista SP1 and HP web cams on my tirade across the web but not this particular one. |

Have you tried going into device manager, removing the driver for the scanner then rebooting to see if vista will detect the web cam and install the driver for it?

Well I tried to uninstalling the device, but the "Scanner" just didn't appear like before. I forgot to mention that the web cam didn't even show up until I went to scanners and cameras and searched for new hardware to install and the search found the "scanner."
Is there anyway to just remove the drivers but leave the device present in the manager to replace the drivers... |
