Windows 7:can hear test tones, but not music

I can't hear any music or dialogue when using Windows 7 with media player/vlc player/media monkey. However, I can hear the test tones when using the speaker set-up function on Windows 7. Any ideas?

I'm using: EVGA 630i m.board, 2x2gb ocz ram, onboard sound and video, Windows 7 32-bit.

I did, Hi Ho.

Everything in the volume mixer and sound mixer screens is enabled and at max volume. It's on one of those screens that I found a TEST button. I clicked it and was able to clearly hear the test tones. That's kinda why I'm really miffed as that proves the connection to my stereo is good etc.

I would try reinstalling the sound card drivers. Try to see if there are any updated drivers available.

I had a problem with Reaper (audio editing program) not playing back any tracks while everything else had sound and I ended up reinstalling the sound card drivers and it fixed the problem.

I am also running Windows 7.

I'll give that a try when I get home tonight. I'd really like to be able to give the audio playback functions of Windows 7 a try. I read that the sound is much better than previous versions of Windows.

Update: I managed to get the sound going. I had to disable HDMI audio in the BIOS .

Time to play some David Gilmour Live in Gdansk
