Dropped internet connection with Vista

I wonder if someone could help me?

Recently, and apparently for no reason, my internet connection won't work. This happens usually after a period of inactivity on the computer, and I have to restart my machine. The other thing when this happens is that the comp. won't usually shut down normally, and I have to hold the start button down to stop it.

As soon as it powers back up, the internet is fine. Any ideas please? I'm running Vista Home Premium.

Are you connecting with a wireless or wired connection?

Is this a new problem?

Have you installed or deleted anything around the time this happened?

Have you tried a system restore?

Can you list system specs.

It's a relatively new problem
Nothing significant installed or deleted around this time - apart from Ad aware re-stall.
System restore tried - still the same
System specs:
Intel quad Q8200 - 2.33GHz; 4MB cache; FSB 1333MHz
4GB Ram
Nvidia 9600GT

Thanks, but unfortunately I don't know what motherboard it is, just that it's Type 2x Intel Pentium III Xeon, 2333 MHz.
Will try re-installing lan drivers.

Have checked that my drivers are up to date, but have again had a repeat of the problem as described. Any more thoughts please?

Did you just check the drivers, or did you actually download the newest ones and install them?

Hi shadowpr

I've only checked the driver via device manager. I've looked for a driver on the Intel site, but couldn't locate one unfortunately. It's an 82562V-2 10/100.

In order to find the newest drivers, you need to know the manufacturer of the motherboard (assuming it's onboard lan).

If this is a prebuilt, you go to the manufacturers site and look for the downloads for your model.

It doesn't sound like this is a prebuilt, so try this: http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/236/3

I believe everest will be able to tell you.
