Migrating Vista from one hard drive to another
Have an old hard drive that is about 600 GB with 100 GB free. It has my Vista 64 Ultimate installed on it. Most of those GBs are non-system files.
I have a new faster hard drive that I want to run Vista from. It is 150 GB. Obviously I cannot simply do an image backup and copy to the new hard drive, because the source drive is 500 gb of data, and the target drive only has 150 gb free. Is there a way to transfer all my custom settings from the Vista I am using now to the new hard drive? Thanks! |

Do you have a third drive to use for temporary storage? Transfer all the Documents/non-system files to the 3rd drive. Then use the imaging software to move the reduced image to the new drive. Then format the 600Gb drive and move the files from temp storage back to the 600 (or whereever you plan to keep them).
