Question New Build- Will Windows Vista Ultimate 64 automatically...

I just bought new components and want to install Windows Vista Ultimate64bit.

All the hardware is new and up to spec.

What I am wondering is...Will Vista Ultimate automatically format and partition my new drive once I boot the system with the Vista Ultimate DVD?

If not, How do I go about formatting and partitioning my new HD? It's been a long while since I've done this and I need a refresher if the Vista DVD doesn't take care of it automatically or ask me if I want to format and create a primary partition for the OS.

I have another question also:

I noticed something interesting while reading reviews about Vista Ultimate 64bit:

One reviewer partitioned his drive in this manner. Primary partition for Vista Ultimate and then another for files and applications.

Why would he do this? Will an operating system work better this way? Will Applications run smoother if they are on another partition?

Thank you.

The Vista install will prompt you to create a partition(s) and format...

Just about the Only reason to put apps on a different partition would be for things like defrag and virus scanners would have less to defrag and scan.

If you put apps on a second partition and later decide to do a fresh install of Vista - you'd have to reinstall all the apps.

Thanks for the info...Was hoping it would be easy as booting to the Vista disc and then following a few simple instructions.

A Fresh install? Meaning installing Vista over top itself if any problems arise in the future? Otherwise a clean install would erase the apps anyway...correct?

A fresh install generaly means - format first.

Right, got you.

I was commenting on the second part of your first post about the partition containing apps.
