Shut down with Vista a Problem
Lately I have noticed that when shutting down the computer it will hang, and I need to do a hard power down. Someitmes just trying to do a restart it won't happen. I will go threw the process and then hang again. I run a dual boot with Xp on one drive and Vista on the other. I don't have this problem with XP just vista. I'm going to run hd diagnostic to see it it helps. Any other ideas thanks..

Just tested both HD, and they check out ok.. I'm curious as this just started to happen.. I don't get any BSOD or any other error, it just will hang on shut down or restart... After 5 minutes I need to do a hard power down in order to get they system down..

did you look in the task manager to see what program is not responding ?
that may give you a clue as to what is causing it. |

No but put what happens is sometimes Vista will be in the middle of shut down, nothing on screen then hangs. So I can't see what is holding it up..

Called MS support today, and after uninstalling a few programs AVG8 and CCleaner everything seems to be back to normal. I really don't see cclearner being a problem, but AVG so far has given me nothing but problems.. I figured I give it a shot again, and it seems as if it is time to just give it up.
