This is what I used. Works fine. Make sure you are using a quality blank. |

Bob. I had trouble with Nero burning the W7 .iso, never had a problem with it burning any other .iso that I can remember.
I have now burned about 6 W7 .iso's using MagicIso. From. Start>Programs>MagicIso>MagicIso (second in the drop down list not Magic CD & DVD burner) in the GUI that opens, go to the tool bar directly above where it says "nonbootable" hover your mouse over the tabs to find the one that says "Burn CD/DVD with ISO...." this will open up another GUI where you can navigate to the .iso file and select your burners speed. I burned a W7 .iso this morning at 125X in about three minutes. Follow this method because selecting anything else with MagicIso can give you some screens with less choices and give odd results. Nero made me about three coasters when trying to burn the W7 .iso, I couldn't get one of them to boot and honestly thought it was something I was doing wrong and each one came up with the same error message. I can't remember what the message was now, that was three or so months ago when I first installed W7 beta.

If you need coasters, NERO can supply them every time!

well so far, two more dvd coasters and $33.45 later ( for the software Miso) it looks like I have the same problem, I am installing vista with the drivers and then try to do the upgrade to W7, but it don't look good so far.
I am not a very happy camper with this so far. bob well I completed the install of vista with all the drivers and settings, so it was running the way I want, then placed the W7 dvd in the drive and did the install / upgrad, all went fine untill the same point, updateing system regesteries and then starting services where it always comes up with the same error that it cannot confiqure the system. one thing I did notice is that the network connection goes out during the updateing step. and never comes back on, it is on all the rest of the updating step, so at this point and time it has been a complete waste of time and money for me. any more ideas ? bob Last edited by bailey; 05-09-2009 at 08:51 PM. |

You must have a corrupted download.
Have you tried both of the downloaded .iso's? |

Bob.
PM me your address and I will post you a burned .iso. If you are not in a rush you can always wait until August when I am popping over to Panama Red's house to help him sort out his rum punch two step problem...... and I can deliver it to you in person.

I had to download Win7 three times, Nero failed at burning one dvd, so I downloaded imgburn, and burned a dvd at 2x and it finally worked. Did a clean install from win7 beta, so far the RC install is running great.

Bob. I just burned a copy and installed it to a spare harddrive in my test rig, everything went fine, I didn't let it register with Micro$oft because this install key is for my son. I don't think there is much of a limitation on the install keys so if your two keys don't work with this disk I can send you an install key (I've got 5 all together).
I'll put it in the post in the morning. edit. My test rig is an old Compaq SR series Presario that I took in as part ex on a new machine back last year sometime. I have replaced the power supply and harddrive and now I use it with the original XP factory recovery installation, stripped to the bare essentials and a load of diagnostic and antivirus/malware scanners installed. I have installed a Promise raid card and I am running W7 on a Seagate 160gig via the Promise card, using the original AMD Sempron 3100+ 1.81GHz processor and 2gig of RAM. The machine runs W7 as sweet as a nut and I honestly think it is quicker than my Northwood P4 2.8/2gig of RAM XP box. Looking at the specifications in your first post you will run W7 easy with that kit, I guarantee you will sit back and enjoy using W7 Bob. Last edited by rjfvillarosa; 05-10-2009 at 12:20 PM. |

I am sure you are going to like it. My only knowledge of Vista is from working on customers machines, from a personal point of view I wouldn't have Vista in the house but this is a whole new ball game.
There are going to be three new experiences for me in the not too distant future. 1. I am going to leapfrog over a version of Windows and go straight to W7 when it is released as a retail version, missing out Vista all together. 2. I am going to buy a version of Windows as soon as it is released rather than wait for eveyone else to iron out the problems. 3. I am going to build a brand new machine to accomodate this new version of Windows, something I have never done for myself before. |

very good, from what I can see so far is that 7 is based on vista, more or less and with a few more enhancements.
my self I kinda like vista, but will not have it on any of my main computers, as there is a lot of software I use that will not run on vista. the only reason I even have it is for the learnning experience to be able to help others with it's set-up and use. the same may be true with windows 7, as it is based on vista and will have the same problems (maybe), there are two main problems that I have with vista, 1. is the fact that there are no printer drivers for my hp printer, and I am not about to buy a new printer just for vista to use it. 2. is the way vista handels the sound card input and out puts, a lot of my software uses the line in and line out to function and vista does things differantly than xp. I have a tower on my no. 2 work bench with a mobil rack, and a tray for each OS, so that I can run any OS any time I want for testing or whatever. |

bailey...
I didnt get home until today (from Indianapolis) and I have the RCs in both flavors...I could very easily send them to you...I've sent copies to others... I always use Imageburn to burn my ISO files...so far not one coaster...I quit using Nero a while back after it burnt 2 Lite-On drives on an avi file... check the media for ripples in the burn...you may have defective media or a bad burner...on the Nero burns 2 out of 10 would have a little flare-up in the burn and would cause the issue...

ok, very good.
well still trying it, I did another download and burn with miso, on a maxwell dvd+/rw, then tried to install, and the same problem, also tried to install on another system and the same problem. I am about to the point that I would be willing to bet that the dvd your sending me will do the same thing, if it does, then what would be the next step to take ? getting very excited bob |

update
well just after I made the last post, I tried it again with the dvd /rw disk and it worked.
I don't have any idea why, but when it was at the setup is starting the services, the screen blinked as normal with all the other tries, but instead of the error message, it continued the install. I am typing this on that system. comments: I like it a lot better than vista so far, everything installed great, including all the drivers for all the hardware on the motherboard, the only thing I had to change was the work group name for my home network. like I said, I really like it wish it had done worked before you posted tge disk to me. oh well that makes one I owe you.

Not just with W7 or Vista, but in the past I have had different versions of Windows fail to install and it doesn't give a reason why, just because I have been using a KVM. I have taken the KVM out of the equation and the install has then gone fine.

I installed mine with a KVM switch....
I use the Avocent SwitchView DVI switch...it enables on the fly switching...some dont and I believe those will give issues.... Just glad you got it working... |

well I am finding out that I really like it so much that I am going to install it on my main computer, I even ordered a new printer today that is networkable and a scanner too.
the HP photo smart C6280, which also does two sided printing, I needed a new scanner anyway as the ones I have are getting very outdated, like w98 stuff. one day I may end up changing the old p4p800 for a newer one too. I will still keep XP on my other 4 systems, and the W98se one will still use the older devices I have, as I just can't seam to throw them out. also thinking about getting a tv tuner card for the W7 system. man this is fun. ![]()
