Windows 7RC doesn't start intenet connection?
Hi
Every time I log into Windows RC it says that there is no internet connection. I have to open the Network Sharing Center, go to Change Adapter Settings, Disable the Local Area Connection and then click Diagnose this connection to get connected. It does not work if I just click Diagnose with out disabling it. It say it can't find a problem. Once I disable it, it says the the problem is that the connection is disabled fixes it and the connection is restored. It works until the next time I log out and then I have to do it all over again. Anyone have any ideas. Mike |

How are you connected to the internet? Is it wired, or wireless?
Have you tried reinstalling the drivers?

Hi Shadowpr
I'm connected to the internet via a wired cable connection through Comcast. I have checked a few things, I'm new to Windows 7 and I came here directly from XP so I'm having a hard time finding things. No errors reported in Device Manager. The computer is set to not allow Windows to shut down the connection in Power Management. I have downloaded and installed the latest Vista drivers for the nVidia Nforce series 4 Network Controler. Once the connection is established it seems to be solid until I log out. It appears that there is no problem creating the connection once Windows is convinced that it needs to be done. Going through the process of disabling the connection and then running Diagnose works every time and I can keep doing this but I would like to have it just connect on it's own. One last note, when I installed Windows 7 I had no problems initially, it configured and connected, the problem didn't start until day 2. Then it wouldn't connect and I spent hours messing around occasionally getting it to connect until I figured out the process that works to force it to create a connection. Any ideas welcome... All I can think of is to submit the bug to microsoft.
That's why it's still a rc. |

it's just that a bug....
Next time you boot and it says there is no net connection try and open the browser to surf the net.... Mine does it too but as soon as the browser opens it connects anyway and then the icon changes... I also have it with mapped/networked drives falling out...but they do re-connect just clicking on them...

I'll give that a try.
I had something similar this morning with system sound. When I booted up this morning is showed that system sounds were not running but I still had sound. When I turned it off and back on it changed the indicator. Mike |

Hi again
I'm back where I was and it will not establish a connection unless I open Device Manager / uninstall the network controller / and then reboot the computer. That forces it to reinstall the controller and then it works. Mike |

Hi
I think I have this fixed at last. I was looking at my list of installed software and found something called "Bonjour Services". I Goggled it and found that it is installed by Adobe and I-Tunes software and I remembered that I had seen some reference to it while troubleshooting this. I didn't think I had it installed so I didn't pay any attention. I uninstalled it and my computer has booted up and connected since. It has worked for a whole day now to I have my fingers crossed but I think this is it. Mike |
