Vista SP2

Has anyone seen the need to install SP2 on their computer yet? Any pitfalls or bad things?

I run XP pro on my two desk tops, wife's laptop has Vista but I was gonna wait on SP2 and see what fallout comes from the early installs.

I just installed it a few hours ago. Everything is running fine. So far so good with the update. Although if your worried of breaking anything just wait a while longer before installing it.

I don't think I'll break anything. I just don't want little problems to pop up when least expected. What I'm surprised at is that MS hasn't offered it to me through their update program.

Thanks for the responses.

I think I read that they will offer it through automatic updates in a few weeks. That's typical I believe when they release service packs.

Personally, I'm going to hold off a while. It doesn't offer any advantages that I can see for my use.

This is quoted from my weekly "Windows Secret" news letter I got today, article was written by Susan Bradley concerning SP2.

"My tests revealed no problems installing or running the service pack on Vista, Windows Server 2008, and Small Business Server 2008. However, some programs (described in KB article 969707) won't run after you install the service pack. These include WebRoot's Spy Sweeper, Eusing's Free Registry Cleaner, and Microsoft's own Application Virtualization program."

I was offered SP2 by Windows update yesterday (the 64 bit version).
I installed it and so far no problems at all.
I do notice that start up and shut down are a little faster.
I have not tried any of the new features yet (such as writing to Blu_Ray).

SP1 update went smoothly for my laptop. I am now d/ling it for my son's laptop with Vista Home Basic. What I found out was that after it searched and found a Windows Defender definition update, as it was being installed it then notified me of another update which was SP2.

I'm not using any of the programs mentioned in the above post so I'm not to worried.

SP2 came in through Windows Updates for me today, no issues whatsoever, install went smooth. Kind of a lackluster service pack, nothing really jumps out at you. I still feel Windows 7 should just have been SP2 for Vista.

Doesn't work with Avira?

Just did the install and an MS alert say's that Avira is incompatible? Looking for a fix or going to roll it back!

Edit: Sorry...had two threads on this. There is a new Avira (ver. 9) that handles this. Thanks shadow and cmillar6!
