vista 64 backup is huge

I'm running Vista 64 on a smokin hot Gateway and using the Windows backup application. I have 80 Gb of stuff on the drive. I backup once a day and the backups have grown to fill my 200Gb ext hdd. I tried talking politely but WIndows will not delete the old stuff to make room for the new. My hhd is full and I can no longer backup. How do I set Windows Backup to delete or overwrite old stuff to make more room.

Or what size hdd do I need to backup 80Gb of stuff with the Visat BU application?
