Vista: Windows Installer Service Could Not be Accessed.

My wife's new PC has Vista Home Premium 64 bit. Lately she has been getting this message when she attempts to install things.

I checked "Services and Applications" and found that her Windows Installer was set on manual.

I started it and set it to start up automatically. Then I rebooted.

Unfortunately, that did not fix the problem.

I also notice that Windows Installer has no description in the service pane. Could be it corrupted and needs "fixing"?

Anyone else have this problem?

Thanks in advance.

The installer service stays in manual till you start an installation.

Is your wife an administrator of the machine?
