Double files
I use the Rhapsody software to download music. I have discovered that a lot of my albums have double the songs. For some reason I have two files of each song with in an album. When I use WM player, it seems to pick up on that and show two of the same files while Rhapsody dosn't do that. I like to use WM player over the Rhapsody. Does anyone know why this happened? It happened on my other computer as well. Is there a way to search all double copied files or something? I'm using Windows 7.

Hmm. This isn't a Windows 7 specific issue, I have run into this with several packages. iTunes, WMP, and even SongBird can all run into this issue. I'm not particularly familiar with how Rhapsody works with getting its songs. I believe it uses DRM'd WMA files if I remember correctly, using the PlaysForSure WMA DRM schemes with subscription based keys (keys can be disabled, rather than making them limited). So I have two theories of why you have two sets.
1) Rhapsody just lost its mind at some point, likely during a software update, or during a Windows Media Player or PlaysForSure update. It lost its library, and then redownloaded all of it again from online where it found what you have on subscription at the moment. 2) The way the software works is by downloading the DRM tracks and then unlocking them somehow, making two files so that you can play it on different devices or other players. However WMP can play them all, because it understands the DRM scheme and has access to the key store. Thereby, it sees two different files for each one. Really the only way to find out for sure, is to download a new song/album, and then check if that one ends up with two or just one copy. if only one copy, then you can just figure out which are the duplicates and safely get rid of them. Other than the issue with Rhapsody, how are you liking Windows 7? Which build are you using? |

Well here is the thing. When Rhapsody downloads its music, it creates a rhapsody folder, which is one location the songs go to. Then for some reason I also see tha same songs in my music folder. I believe that is the default way the music goes on. So to recap, The songs are in the music folder and the rhapsody creates a rhapsody folder with in my music folder. So thats two locations. I tried deleting this rhapsody folder and telling rhapsody to just put my music in the music folder but no luck. It still tries to create a rhapsody folder when I download.
Now when I deleted the rhapsody folder, this seemed to solve the issue for MOST of the songs. However, there were a couple of songs that were still duplicated. I just deleted them and the problem didnt come back yet. By the way, I didn't know if I mentioned but the doulbe file issue only shows up in WMP. So After I did that I downloaded and album and i didnt see double songs so hopefully I fixed it. I just want to know what went wrong. And for the record, I HATE the rhapsody software it always freezes and crashes and stuff but Its the best music subscription out there. Ah now W7 I do love all the features. I am having a problem with it on my labtop though. It seems to keep shutting itself off for some reason. I've tried everything. Power options, flash bios, plugged in, and made sure it didnt get hot but nothing. Im going to have to uninstall it. It annoying. Also, when I plug in my Zen X Fi mp3 player, it never reads how charged up it is right. It always says that its like at 39% when the zen says its full. But who knows, maybe its my zen. Its been giving me problems too. I also have it on my desktop and i did get one blue screen with it. It did manage to repair itself (I think). Other than that. I do really like it but they need to fix thoughs problem if they want my money (: |
