How to adjust system sound volume

Hi! I am very new to Vista, less then a week. Is there a way to turn down the system sounds? After playing some music, if I forget to turn the volume down using the volume slider on the task bar I get a real blast. If there isn't a way, then how do you just turn the sounds off? Thanks

Start -> Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Sounds -> Change System Sounds

In there you should be able to disable your current sound scheme.

I am guessing this has to be for a laptop?
