Is windows 7 update like vista update
I know this is kind of early----I purchased the windows 7 update since it is 1/2 price. I'll be installing it on an XP machine. MS says that is no problem in that it is probably a clean install. My question is concerning another clean install. I'm in the habit of doing a clean install every 9-12 months. My documents are on another partition. I don't mind reinstalling programs since it gives me a chance to only add what I actually use. So, if the XP needed to be on my PC first before I updated to OS 7, would I need to reinstall the xp before a do a complete install of OS 7?

My understanding is that the goal Microsoft has with Win 7 is that the upgrade disc must see an installed and activated copy of win vista or xp. Whether this is actually written into the new OS, is yet to be seen. Microsoft wanted to do that with Vista too, but didnt get it working in time.
So we have to wait and see. But doing a clean install with the upgrade disc should be fine as long as you meet to requirement of having Win Vista/Xp installed. |

Makes sense. PC w/ RC 7 installed (via clean install) has vestiges of older XP files and old programs still there.
