Flash Not Being Recognized by Flash Applications
I have loaded Flash quite a number of times now in my wife's computer. Every time though when there is a Flash application in a website, the application does not seem to recognize that it is there. Or perhaps the Flash application never loads?
-or- Is there a Flash substitute which would allow me to bypass this problem?

Uninstall any version(s) of flash (Even if you have already installed the latest version) that are now on your computer and then install the latest version of flash.

The main thing I always have to make sure of is that I have any kind of "blocker" turned off (popup blockers, ActiveX blockers, etc). What I usually do is start with a total uninstall of Flash, like Rick Hall mentioned. You'll need the uninstaller from here.
http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html Might need to reboot after that to clear all the activex controls out of memory. When it gets rebooted, make sure before you download Flash and install that you've got all those blockers turned off. Another thing you might double check is that your security settings aren't totally blocking ActiveX. I don't know about Firefox, but if you're using IE, go to the security settings in Internet Options and make sure you've got "Download Signed ActiveX controls" and "Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins" both set to at least "Prompt". If they're disabled, you won't get the ActiveX control to install and run. Hopefully, after all that, it *should* be installed and work okay. Don't forget to turn your blockers back on after you're done. I've done that several times and when I go surfing again I get slapped with popups and ads and I'm like "AAAAARRRRGGGHH!!!".
