Question Windows 7 Experience Index ???

If you're using Windows 7 and look at your system info at Control Panel > System and Security > System, you will see a Windows Experience Index. My rating is at a 3.7 on due to the performance of my CPU...why is this. I would think that my CPU would be pretty damn fast. Is this anything to be worried over? Anyone else seeing anything similar?

The main reason I'm asking is because this PC is my first build and maybe I didn't install/configure something right. I honestly haven't seen a drastic improvement over my P4 machine, so maybe there is something to this. I'm not seeing the performance difference that I seen between my PII and my P4, but I wasn't expecting that drastic of a change.

That's definitely too low for a 955BE. My i7 is a 7.8 right now, I think it was like 7.3 before overclocking? I would expect a stock 955 to be in the 6-range, maybe high 5s at the lowest.

Might want to download CPU-Z and make sure it's reading the correct hardware specifications of your CPU. Not sure what else you could check beyond that. The score itself isn't an issue, but it may be an indication of a real problem with your machine.

I noticed that it was last ran right after I got everything up and running, so I re-ran it and it now reads 7.9 on the CPU...that's a lot better. lol

I didn't think it was running that slow, like I said, I didn't think that there was going to be that "quantum leap" that I saw with the switch from my PII to the P4.

Now it looks like my data transfer rate is the slowest one now, coming in at a 5.9...I guess that's normal???

7.9? Weird.

5.9 seems to be as high as any single 7200RPM HDD will get. That's also what my Caviar Black scored before I upgraded.

My 10,000 rpm VelociRaptor only scores a 5.9

7.9 on the CPU, not the HDD, that was a 5.9

Yes, my quad CPU shows a 7.4. The HD is a 10,000 rpm WD butt kicker and that is showing only a 5.9 like your 7200 rpm. Not sure why. I would think it would of been a tad bit higher. Probably would have to go to a RAID configuration to get it higher.
