I'm not sure what a XP signature box is, but what happens/doesn't happen when you try to print?

Are you using a password on the Vista box? Vista seems to demand a password in order for any networking configuration to work.

Mysignature box is the rig I have listed under all my posts, EzyStvy.
Panama, I originally setthe laptop up with a password but I ditched it. Do I need to reset a password?

Try it with a password and see if that helps.

Well, I was hopeful, but that did not seem to help. Is DHCP enabled in Vista?

Yes, DHCP is enabled. The TCP/IP settings in Vista look just like those in XP. As long as both computers are in the same Workgroup, Vista should "see" the XP machine just fine. Are you sure the Printer sharing is on? You might need to check the permissions in XP Pro too.

Both the Vista laptop and the XP desktop have the file & print share enabled. The Vista laptop was sharing the internet connection just fine, but after a little poking around it was not in the WorkGroup. I added it to the workgroup but still no joy ):

Would a Jetdirect print server help me? I know the HP printer I have has no Vista drivers developed, website says that Vista native drivers will work but with deminished functionality. The very reason I bought this budget laptop was to avoid cost.....sheeesh

Well, I should be ashamed, but my final solution to this delimma was to go out and buy a network printer. All is working well, but I did not muster the patience to work through this one. Thanks to all who tried to help.
