File Transfers (Vista/Win7)

I have seen different topics on Vista and Win7 but there is one factor I haven't seen much about. Saving huge files and moving them across the network is a very long and time consuming process in Vista. I try to make it a habit to get on my XP notebook to transfer the files. Now is there a big difference between Vista and Win7 when it comes to saving and transfers?

My network caps out at about 1 MB/s in both Vista and Windows 7, but I always assumed that it was capped by the router. I don't believe I've tried with XP recently enough to recall...
