Question Will windows 7 work on my new PC?

I am building a new desktop PC. My components are:

EP45-UD3P Gigabyte motherboard
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9650 processor
8GB on board memory
Two Western Digital hard drives (1 tb each drive)
LG 22X DVD rewriter (internal)

At present I do not have a full version of Vista Ultimate to use as my operating system. I am considering buying Vista Ultimate for $200.00. I was thinking of waiting until Windows 7 comes out. The full version of Windows 7 Home Premium is priced at $200.00 also. My question is this: Will my system (described above) work with Windows 7?

Not that you should, but I had windows 7 running on an AMD duron 900 with 640MB ram

Right now I use it everyday on a P4 and an AMD 6000+
