windows 7 key

hi there. I am wondering something. If i have the beta of windows 7 that they released some time ago, i undeerstand that within a year it will not work again. I know that it came with the ultimate version which i like a lot....what i want to know is if all i need to do is purchase a key for the ultimate version as i have the beta or would i need to purchase the whole software which gives a key as well?

Others will correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that the 7 Beta is just for test purposes and you'll have to purchase the final version which I think will be available some time in October.

Quote:
Remember expiration dates: Please plan ahead for when the RC expires. You'll get two weeks' notice, and then beginning on March 1, 2010, your PC will start shutting down every two hours. The RC will expire on June 1, 2010. To avoid interruption, you'll need to rebuild your test PC to replace the OS with a valid version of Windows, and reinstall all your programs and data before the software expires.

If I remember correctly I read somewhere on the MS site that the beta and RC versions will not be updateable to the retail version, you will have to buy a retail version and do a reinstall.

I don't know why Microsoft is doing where you can't do an upgrade from Windows 7 RC to Windows 7 Final, but here's a geeky way in doing it. How to upgrade Windows RC to Final

However, I'm personally going to do a fresh install.

NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER install PRE-RELEASE software unless you are prepared to reformat and start over.
