Windows Vista Errors
Hi,
I consistently get the error messages... Internet Explorer has stopped working..... Windows Explorer has stopped working..... Microsoft ActiveSync has stopped working..... A few months ago I upgraded from 2GB to 4GB of memory (although Vista only sees 3.3GB) and although the problems 'seem' to have started appearing after I upgraded I can't be sure that it's not just Vista that's become a bit messed up. I will try running Vista with my original 2GB but is there anything else? Thoughts? P.S. I'm soon to be installing Windows 7 on this PC so I'd prefer to rule out a hardware issue.

Did you fully update your install to inlcude SP2? I had many of the same errors for a long time but they seem to have all but disappeared after installing SP2. Oh, and if you're running the 64 bit version, I don't think SP2 has been released for 64 bit.

HI PR,
Sorry I never made clear. Updated to SP2, fully virus free, no spyware or any other crap on the system. Vista 32 bit - 64bit sees the full 4GB. Last edited by ConLog; 10-02-2009 at 05:02 PM. |

Ah, missed the ram part (hmm, o'er the ramparts we watched...) (I'm easily distracted!
) Mine is Vista Ultimate 32 bit that gave me trouble. If I remember right, I also updated the video drivers somewhere in the process. I still get full system lockups on occasion but the program faults you describe have pretty much vanished.

question
My husbands computer is now also having problems with internet explorer connection and the computer sometime freezing up. He has also been getting a virus ad that pops up at start up and says he has a virus and we can not seem to get rid of the ad. He is not very knowledgeable about computers and the first time he clicked yes but then canceled when it started asking for money. I deleted cookies and temp internet today.
