Question Getting ATA DVD drives to show up

H Gang

Using Win 7 RC, and cannot get either ATA DVD drives to show up. There are listed in the Bios ok. But when I click on my computer the ony thing that shows up is my HD. I changed the cable, no change. At first only one would show up now neither of them show up.

Thanx and take care....Gunny

Hi Gang

I have been doing a lot of reading about this problem, and it seems that it is a problem in XP, Vista, etc. It involves things in the registry called Upper and Lower Filters. And you are supposed to delete them from the registry. Does any one know anything about this or has had the same problem, and has deleted them from the registry.?

Thanx....Gunny

Hi Ezy

Sorry I should have said PATA drives. I see so many guys say ATA when they are not SATA drives.

Thanx....Gunny

PATA drives have jumper pins on the backside.

Try both a CS (cable select)
if that doesn't help:

Or one drive as MASTER - plugged into the middle of the ribbon and the other drive as SLAVE plugged into the end of the cable.

Hi EZY

I tried that slave and master already, but I have not tried the Cable select for both of them yet. What I did do is subbed a SATA DVD drive for one of the PATA drives and it showed up but the PATA still won't show up.

The more and more I research this the more I am coming across this Registry thing. Cause this is happening with 2 SATA drives too, where there is no master. slave cable choices. But I will try it and see what happens. It sure don't cost anything to try. Just a little time.

Thanx...Gunny
