Problem with flash in Vista

I've got a Dell Inspiron 530 that's nearing its second year in my service, and while it's not been an amazing performer, it's worked fairly well up until a week ago. I've made the mistake of not turning off the computer often enough, so it hasn't been updated very often. When I did turn it off(and subsequently on), I immediately noticed something wrong. The YouTube videos I wanted to watch never started, and made the browser freeze up. I was recommended to format the 'puter, just remove everything and re-install Vista.

Guess what? It didn't work. After updating the flash player, the player no longer froze, it just played the videos at double the speed.

I really have no idea what's wrong with my computer, so I was hoping maybe someone 'round here could think of a solution?

Thanks in advance.

After you reinstalled Windows did you install all the drivers from Dell's web site?
