Upgrading from MCE to Windows 7
Okay, so I have a HP Pavilion laptop that I'm upgrading to Windows 7. My question is what do I do about the recovery partition on my hard drive? How do I upgrade to Windows 7 and then access the drivers on the partition in order to get my computer up and running? In case you need the information, my laptop's specs are in my signature.

Win7 will load it's own drivers. The old drivers are for XP only. You might check at HP support and see if they list any drivers for Vista or Win7 for that machine.

Okay, thanks, will do. So does that mean I can get rid of the recovery partition?

If you're certain you'll Never want or need to run XP then you don't really need it.
Did you run the Win 7 compatibility wizard on your pc yet? (can be found via google) |

Yeah, I ran the wizard and everything checked out.
Hmm, that's a tough call to make. Is there any way to back up the recovery partition? |

The recovery partition is so small I would tend to leave it intact. If/when you decide to get rid of that machine, you might want to reinstall XP. Keeping the partition allows for that option.

Thanks for all the responses. Well I downloaded the upgrade version from a website, so I don't have a cd for it. I can't even mess with the partitions without a cd, so it doesn't matter what I want to do. I'll leave the partition, but is there a way to turn this file into a bootable cd-rom?
