Pre-installed Windows 7 question

I've seen several laptaps with Windows 7 32-bit with 3GB of memory but upgradeable to 8GB of memory. My question is does the laptop manufacturer and/or Windows provide a 64bit version of the OS to use the 8GB or do you have to purchase a new OS?

Windows 7 does have a 64 bit version that I'm sure all manufactures have, especially if they offer upgrades to 8 gig's of ram.

ok. I was curious because I see a lot of laptops at Best Buy with 3GB of memory with the 32-bit version of the OS but can be later upgraded to 8. But since you would need the 64 bit to use the 8GB, just wanted to know if that would be another purchase for the 64bit or if it would come with it (either in box or via mail in)

You should ask Best Buy.

I bought a Windows 7 install disk and it came with both versions (you can only install 1) but my new computer just came with a Windows 7 64 disk, (though it is a real Microsoft install disk) and Best Buy may be selling the computers with only a Oem disk for W7 32 or no disk at all.

Find out from them what the deal is.

The OEM versions only come with one OS....If you want 64 bit - order it at the initial time to avoid additional costs
