Where are system restore files?
I recently upgraded my HP laptop to Windows 7. The laptop came with a recovery partition from HP with Vista that I no longer want. I know how to go into disk management and delete the partition.
The System Restore utility has saved me more than once. I'm talking about the System Restore where you can pick a prior restore date and bring the computer back to the configuration of that time, not System Recovery as in recovery disks or the recovery partition. Does anyone know where Windows puts the files for System Restore? I had assumed they were somewhere on the C drive, but I can't find them. I'm hoping they are not on the D Recovery partition drive so if I delete that partition I will lose System Restore capability. I have other computers with only a C drive and System Restore works, so I'm hoping by deleting the recovery partition I won't lose system restore. Anyone know for sure or how I can check my computer?

Unless you use System Restore every day - you will probably ok without for a day or two...
But, the restore files are on your C drive in a hidden folder called System Volume Information. |
