Cant Install Windows 7 help :(
Ok so i went and purchased a new 1TB WD hard drive which i intended to install Windows 7 onto. As i am going through the setup it asks me to select the driver software i want to be installed so that it can access the hard drive. But it did not come with any software and as far as i know hard drives don't need drivers..
I cant skip this step either. could you please tell me what software i require and where i could download it? Thanks. |

I haven't installed Windows 7 but I would assume that they are prompting for the driver for your sata controller. That prompt may indicate that the installation routine cannot find any hard drive on the system with the drivers available. That would in turn raise the question of whether the drive is detected in your bios setup. If not, the drive is either DOA ,not installed correctly or not setup in the bios correctly.
I would assume that Windows 7 would have all the standard sata controller drivers built in. If the drive is detected in the bios setup, try setting the sata mode to AHCI and see if the installation will go. Win 7 has full support for AHCI. Also make sure sata raid is turned off in the bios setup. |

Windows 7 automatically found all drivers for my drives and periphals. I would have thought it would have done the same, and had no problem, with your hard drive. Incidentally, I also bought a new WD HD (SATA 640Gb).
