How can I uninstall this thing?
I upgraded Vista 64 to Windows 7 64 on my HP HDX 18 notebook. The only program not working correctly is the MediaSmart TV used with the HD TV tuner. HP has a new version for Windows 7 on their site, but I can't uninstall the old version that doesn't work. I'm trying to uninstall the correct way through Control Panel. When I try to uninstall it starts to go through the normal motions of initializing the uninstaller then I get the following message..."The installation will be terminated at this time. This software is intended for Windows Vista Windows Vista MCE."
It's no good trying to install the new version for Windows 7 over the old version either as the install also crashes because of the old version. It gets about halfway through then disappears. I thought about manually deleting the old program through explorer but doesn't that create registry problems when you don't uninstall with control panel? How can I uninstall this thing?

Don't know if it will work with Win7 as I haven't tried it but you might want to try the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility.

Hi
You could also download a program called Revo Uninstaller. http://www.revouninstaller.com/ I used it recently in Windows 7 and it worked great. It seems to be able to uninstall things that Windows can't for one reason or another and it claims to get rid of the registry entries etc that Windows leaves behind. And it's free. Thanks for the responses. I'll try them this weekend when I have some time to work on it.

I ran the revouninstaller even though it said it was not compatible with 64 bit versions of Windows. It still ran the application's uninstaller tool which crashed as usual. The revouninstaller said it ran successfully when I know it did not. Then the app said it found over 1500 registry entries and files that still needed to be deleted.
I chickened out and cancelled as I did not think I should let this make 1500 registry changes. Could the MediaSmart TV application have that many registry entries? Also, the Microsoft Installer did not say it was compatible for Windows 7 so I'm afraid to use that also. Every item on my computer is working perfectly EXCEPT for the MediaSmart TV, so I don't want to take major chances with software changing my registry that even states it does not work with 64 bit. So, I'm still left with no way to remove or update this application to the newest version. |

Hi
Are you running version Revo version 1.83. I'm using it in Windows 7 64 bit and I didn't get any incompatibility message and it seems to run fine. I wouldn't remove that many registry entries either, that doesn't sound right. I remember trying to uninstall my McAfee software once, it drove my so crazy I gave up and reinstalled Windows to get rid of it. If you can identify the registry entries associated with the software you could try removing them manually. Mike Last edited by MikeMoss; 12-06-2009 at 11:25 PM. |

The Revo didn't pop up with any incompatability messages.....but if you read the download page under additional information it says that "this software is not compatible with 64 bit Windows operating systems.
Yes, I'm about to give up on uninstalling this unless someone knows how to repair the uninstaller for it or another way to get rid of it. What a shame as I have everything else working perfectly and I don't want to format and reinstall as I would be looking at at least 2 days of work to get everything back. |

I didn't notice the 64 bit operating system message.
Not too obvious a placement. The only other thing I can think of is trying to do the uninstall in Safe Mode if you haven't already tried that, so that a lot of other stuff isn't loaded or in Administrator Mode. Of the two I think that safe mode has the better chance of succeeding since it is't telling you that you can't uninstall it. Maybe Uninstaller Pro suggested by acuariano will work, it's worth a shot. |
