Windows 7 Legal Question
I have a Toshiba laptop that I just bought which came with Vista. I ordered the free 7 upgrade but it takes like a month or so to show up I think.
So I was thinking I could just use the Windows 7 disc that I used when I built my computer and install that. I'm not sure however if that is legal or not. It seems like it should be legal since I do have a COA on the laptop that I'd use for the Windows 7 upgrade from Toshiba anyway. Plus then I don't have to decrapify it. I would have to hunt down the drivers for the webcam, phone modem, wifi etc. But they should be available somewhere right? Thanks for your time. |

If the Win 7 disk they send you is tied to the bios of the laptop, then you will not be able to install it. If it is a regular Windows disk, and you install it using the product key, that came with it, you will have to activate it.

You MUST have 2 Win7 key codes in order to run Win 7 on two machines.

Exactly even with the two you will still have to activate at least one.. I lost my daughters disk for he Dell.. So I had to use a spare from another machine. I used the same key from Dell, put because it was not a Dell OS install disk, it had to be activated..

Ok, I see. Thanks for your responses.
I did, however, just remember that the OEM 7 is Professional and the Toshiba 7 is Home Premium and since Pro costs more I'm pretty sure I'm not supposed to install Pro on the laptop without paying extra. Last edited by Hufigyed; 12-06-2009 at 05:07 PM. Reason: grammer |
