Win 7 Upgrade as New Install

So I purchased the Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade Family Pack (3 licenses for $150). On my main PC (popeye in sig) I created a new partition & installed Win 7 as a complete new install on that new partition. To my surprise it activated with no problem. I'm guessing because it searched my entire drives and saw that I had a valid install of XP Pro on another partition. Am I correct about this?

Also someone said since my Win 7 is an upgrade disk that my XP Pro license might now expire in a certain amount of days since I activated 7. This seems pretty far fetched or is it?

You are correct on the upgrade portion, I'd heard that once you upgrade, the old OS license was no good anymore but haven't researched it cause still running XP Pro myself.

I'm still running my original XP Pro in virtual. Its been that way since the opening day of Win7. I have the upgrade version and everything seems to be running just fine with both OS.

I'm running XP & 7 in dual boot....when my system starts it gives me the option to load XP or 7. So not sure about virtual running.
