deleting fonts in Win 7

My new Win 7 install has a fonts folder filled with foreign fonts I have no use for. A few I could delete but most say they are protected. How can I get rid of all those fonts I know I will never use? I also would like to streamline my font list to those I use or would use. How do I know which are important and which are fluff?

Open the fonts folder in Control Panel and add delete of make adjustments from there.
Be careful that you don't delete fonts that were installed by software that you have installed that the program may need.

I was able to delete some, but many are protected by Windows. I have no need for foreign fonts and would like to get rid of them, but unless there is a special way to do so, I seem to be stuck.
