Trying to unearth Google Earth.

I went to boot Google Earth from a desktop icon which told me the link was no longer valid. So I went to All Programs to look for it there. I could not find it. So I went to Google Earths website and downloaded the latest version. The download went normally and it seemed to install. I went back to All Programs and could not find it there. There is no desktop icon, system tray icon or boot menu icon for it either. So I went to Control Panel/ Programs and Features and found it there...problem is, I am not interested in deleting the software. So I went to Start Search, entered in "Google" and it does not come up in Start Search.

Belarc Advisor confirms that Google Earth Version 5.1.3533.1731 is installed.

How do you find and boot a software program that has seemingly buried itself?

Is there third party software that searches for and allows me to boot software whose icons are not right at the surface?

BTW, in my experience since I started using Vista, the Vista search feature is near worthless for finding things. Why it can't find software I just downloaded and installed is beyond me. The old XP search feature worked much better, but that's a different topic.

Copy the following and paste it into your START->Run box:

"C:\Program Files\Google\Google Earth\googleearth.exe"

Thanks, but a message box comes up saying that Windows could not find it.

I should have thought of this before...

I went to Computer, Local disk (C)/Program Files (x86)/Google/Google Earth/Application. It started right up.

I clicked and dragged the Application icon to the desktop so I now have an extension to the application.

Is there a way of keeping the Application in the correct folder AND have a application extension on the desktop? The Application file in the Google Earth folder disappeared when I did this.

Can you right click with the mouse and use the "Send To" option and select DeskTop (create Shortcut)?

You can also right click on the desktop, select New, Shortcut, Browse find the location of the .exe file you want.

Select it click Ok, Next, Finish and an Icon will appear on your desktop.

The target in the properties for the shortcut Google Earth made on my desktop is:
"C:\Program Files\Google\Google Earth\client\googleearth.exe"
And start in is:
"C:\Program Files\Google\Google Earth\"

if that is any help.

Strange.
Now it says Google Earth will not run because libexpatw.dll was not found.
