Vista Reinstallation/Repair Help

Ok so my brothers dell laptop is completely messed up. I reinstalled Vista and then when it restarts it still has problems. I got to the desktop and then that blue screen came up! I restarted and clicked repair this time instead of reinstalling and when I did so, it just restarted and went to the "windows recover error" screen where it lists options to start windows in safe mode, with prompt, etc...

Im not sure what to do now. Any info is appreciated. I reinstalled xp on one of my laptops and had no problems.

Ok now Ive gotten to the repair screen again and it says "select operating system to repair" and nothing is listed for me to repair. So it says to load drivers but I do not know what to do from here... What would I possibly 'load?'

If it helps I skipped the 'load drivers' part and tired to automatically repair and it said it couldnt repair it automatically. It also wont let me do a complete Repair or any of the other options.
