Computer hangs (Or did until...)
Strange one because this question could belong in several forums...
Up until today, I could not use the Internet Explorer 8 browser because it caused my system to hang. I could open and use this browser for a short while then the computer would just freeze - no BSOD, no HD activity, no mouse or keyboard input working. Just the screen sitting there frozen. I noticed if I just let IE run for days without any mouse movements it works OK but after a short while using the mouse it would freeze. Well today I swapped out my mouse and IE and my PC has worked perfectly! Where do you think the problem lies? A problem with Windows 7 (and Vista because it did it with that too)?, a problem with my Microsoft Wireless Optical Mouse 2.0 (or Win Vista/7 driver)? or a problem with Internet Explorer 8? Just to re-iterate my computer works PREFECTLY but as soon as I use IE8 with my MS mouse the PC hangs. Thoughts?

I had a similar problem when running anything in Win 7 after about 10 minute. The computer would just freeze with no now warning and no BSOD. I could boot and operate in the safe mode.
I ran all of the diagnostics and used device manager. I also ran several memory checks. Everything checked out. The even viewer simply reported an unexplained shutdown and reboot. My computer is about eight years old though it has been upgraded. I had recently added RAM and a new video card to optimize the system for Win 7. I suspected it was video related since my index was low in the video area. I tried several video driver versions including a beta version. Nothing changed. It would still freeze up shortly after Win 7 loaded. I took the video card back to to the place where I bought it and had their techs check it. It did the same thing in their test machine - froze. they gave me credit on that card and I installed a GeForce 7600 in its place. My problem disappeared. It was the video card though all tests showed it was working fine. My index score improved form 2.9 to 4.7 with he new card.

I think the problem is your mouse. I've stopped using MS mouse as it seems to have too many issues with time. Currently, I am using Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse and have no more problems.
