I had to make my own. When doing the setup, I was prompted to make them. It required 4 DVDs or 20 something CDs. I just installed a new 160 gig WD in mine last night and the restore worked great. Really slow but it did work.

I bet your new laptop came with a manual

But posting the make and model number would be a good idea.

Why does it take 5 DVDs to make a install setup when it only takes one DVD to install it to start with?
I'll have to check my wifes new Dell laptop.

I assumed it would come with a Windows disk of some kind.
I didn't really look at the disks that came with it.

My new PC came with a regular Microsoft Windows 7 disk.

Service Packs, drivers, and crapware are three things that I can think of that aren't on a regular windows installation disk that you will find on the restore disks from computer manufacturers. You can also throw in vendor diagnostic utilities as well. All that being said, I've never needed 5 dvds. The largest I've had is one dual layer dvd for a vista restore disk.
