What is Microsoft.NET Framework ?

Can anyone explain what this is? I've read up on it, sounds like it's some kind of developers tool or something?

Reason I ask is I keep getting an error message Microsoft.NET Framework An unhandled exception has occurred in a component in your application .....

I notice I have several versions of Microsoft.NET Framework on my computer. Do I need these for anything or can they be deleted ?

It's similar to what Adobe Air is, certain programs run using such an application protocol framework. In case of .NET framework, it's version specific, so if you have a program that needs .NET v1.0 then you need to install that version in order to use the program (such as Paint.NET), but the program won't run on other versions of .NET framework. I have a couple of versions of .NET installed as I have some programs that need one of those versions each. If you know which programs run on .NET framework, and you no longer use the program, you can delete .NET framework from your computer like you would delete a program.

Yes, there are a few different versions, but it's usually best to leave them alone. Various applications do use specific versions of .NET
