Latest Vista updates

Has anyone had problems with the Vista updates that came out Feb 9 or 10? I installed them but then ran into errors trying to restart. I resorted to going back to a previous start point so I'm running again.

I don't think I will install updates until the next SP comes out.

Angry Fire frustrated beyond belief

Not sure what is going on let me tell my sad sad story here. After checking email this morning got a message windows vista ultimate needs to restart to finish installing updates. Clicked restart now and went to take my son to school. Came back my outlook settings are gone, my sidebar isn't how I configured it, my favorites are gone, I can't find firefox and my screen saver and desktop have been changed. Any suggestions on how I begin to get all this crap back would be appreciated. I don't mind them updating their software but when it changes all my settings kinda pisses me off.

Resolved

Ok this sounds wierd but going to post it. Turned off computer took it to my local tech since I don't have much experience with vista. Got to his shop started it up and everything came back all my settings, programs, wall papers and my sidebar stuff. No idea why that happened or what fixed it but it fixed itself and seems to be running fine.

Sounds like taking a dog to the vet. The dog was so damned scared he fixed himself.

Most of them were security updates as I remember - about 9 MB worth.

I usually put my computer down in hibernate mode rather than shutting down. I may do this many days (about a week). When I did this update I hadn't shut it down in a week but only went to hibernate mode. Does anyone think this might contribute to this poor behavior of a Windows update?

I have noticed other times when going to hibernate after several times I might get some weird behavior on the laptop where the mouse won't work or other simple things don't act right. A reboot fixes all that. That's why I wonder if this was a similar type of problem for me on this update.

Were they these updates? You can check in the Windows Update history.

Also what's going wrong with your computer? maybe someone in the future [if there's a fix] can use this thread to determine a solution to a problem similar to yours.

I had trouble with the MSoft updates in that I could not get online this morning immediately after I had turned off the computer last night after installing updates. I did an extra reboot while preparing to call tech support - and was surprised that I then was able to get online. So apparently all is now well - try a reboot (again).
