I need to build a new PC as my wifes PC is starting to cause problems. She has XP Pro. Is it worth going to WIN 7?
I know that when I went from XP Pro to Vista I was not a happy camper. I have finally got used to it but all things considered I wish I had stayed with XP. Thanks for any and all opinions. Chas

There are many threads on this same subject...
You'd need to define "worth it" inorder from anyone to answer... I would NOT upgrade a sick/acting up pc to Win7 in an attemp to cure the problems...Technically, we'd need to know what the problems are. Win7 is a nice/working OS....Most people that have used Vista and Win7 - like Win7 better. |

Chas, I have several pc's in the house all running Win 7. After having numerous issues with Vista, I decided to forgo any further irritations and switched to XP. Now that Win 7 is here, I can honestly say that MS has learned (hope it continues) off its mistake and made Win 7 far more stable and a "friendlier" os. With the new hardware, I would not even consider installing XP and go for the Window 7 experience. I am almost sure you will not be disappointed.
![]() @ EzyStvy: something tells me that Chas is just itching to find a good reason to build a new pc..

I had the same problem with this one when I built it couple of years ago, but was pleased when it was finished (with the exception of Vista), so I will bite the bullet. And after reading what EzyStvy replied I may just get a copy of WIN 7 for myself. Thanks Chas |

I rebuilt my computer about six months ago. I was running XP Pro. I installed Windows 7 Ultimate (which was gifted to me) and I haven't looked back. I am pleased with several things :
1. Its self diagnostics seem to work - and I put them to the test until I got all of my hardware right. 2. Very stable 3. The folks at M$ have done a remarkable job with the services. I never ran Vista so I don't know what Vista's services were like. But Win 7's services are a dream compared to XP's. Most service are set to manual and only start if needed and the OS does a good job of stoppin them after they are no longer needed. I still have an XP machine; but I recommend Windows 7 if your computer is relatively up to date. I should add the OS is locked down pretty tight and Administrators do not have the free reign I enjoy in XP.
