64 bit-Hardware issues?
I am considering (gasp) purchasing this PC. http://www.amazon.com/Gateway-FX6831...6372033&sr=1-3
I read that 64 bit Windows 7 requires 64 bit drivers for hardware connected. Does this include peripherals like printers and such? Mice? ect? Was also thinking to upgrade my wireless router with this one, http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...X0DER&v=glance as it is listed as Tested and Compatible with 64bit Win7. What do you guys think on the planned purchases? Sorry if this is poking too much into this OS forum.

I've been running Win7 home prem, 64 bit for about a month now and haven't had any driver issues with any of my devices.

The only issue I have had is with my Epson 1650 Scanner.
They don't have any 64 bit drivers for it, everything else works great. I had to use a software package from another company to make the scanner work. |

According to the HP website there is no plan to supply drivers for the ScanJet 6200cxi, which has been a workhorse of a flatbed scanner for me. Drivers up to 32bit XP only. Drat, I don't really NEED two desktops in the house, but it looks like I might just to keep some good hardware.

Hi
I was able to use my scanner by installing View Scan software. It seems to be able to run any scanner in 64 bit. Eventually I will get a new scanner once they start having 64 bit drivers available for them but for now it solves the problem. I don't know why the scanner companies are so reluctant to update their drivers. The reason that I have a Epson scanner now it that when I switched to Windows XP from 98, HP didn't make any drivers for my old, very expensive large format scanner. I was so mad that since then I have never bought another HP product. I switched everything over to Epson, both scanners and printers. Mike Last edited by MikeMoss; 02-19-2010 at 04:44 PM. |
