Windows 7 64-bit Install disc
Hi, all. I have Windows 7 Professional 32-bit, which I got through my college's MSDNAA. Unfortunately, my administrator's only had the 32-bit install disc on the server (as far as I know, both are available for MSDNAA and can use the same license, is this correct? I'm just a little irked at 4.00gb [2.75gb usable]). I tried contacting Microsoft, and their response was basically that I'd have to "find" a copy of windows 64 bit installation disc, or I'd need to buy the upgrade. So, I have a couple of questions:
Do the Windows 7 discs determine which version you have by license? (So, could I buy the cheapest upgrade disc and use my current license--calling Microsoft to reactivate if necessary--and still use Professional?) Is there any way to get Microsoft to send me the installation disc, or somewhere I can request it? I looked around the site and all I could find was the ability to download from the product store; but it won't let you do that just with an existing license, you had to buy it directly from them, I guess. Hopefully, I'm overlooking something. If all else fails, I'll just nag my administrator til he gets it. Thanks for any help! |

What happens when you log into MSDN and look at the keycodes you've requested?

I didn't have to create an account or anything to get it, my administrator gave me a key and put the bootable Windows 7 installer on my flash drive (but he was kind of clueless when I mentioned 64-bit, I don't think he's hardware savvy.)
I mean, I can log in to MSDN with my Windows LIVE account, but it's not connected with my Windows installation. It seems like there would be somewhere I can link the two---validate that I have a genuine Windows 7 key and then have access to the installation iso, but I can't find it. I can also log in to the student discount store thing, with my school email, but it's not the same program. All the "download" links just lead me somewhere to purchase a version with a license, which I shouldn't need. I did find a link for the direct download of the bootable ISO, from digital river content, but I don't know if that's an official channel, and I don't want to download it from anywhere unsavory. I read that digital river fulfills the digital downloads for Microsoft, though. I just don't want to end up in legal trouble or with a virus-ridden OS. Why not just ask your admin to download the 64bit version from MSDN using the MSDN credentials. Doesn't cost him or your organization anything for him to go in and download it. If you are authorized to use the MSDN version then he should not have a problem with it.

that's probably the best plan, I just didn't want to inconvenience him if the download was available to everyone with a key.
