Question I'm installing Windows 7 64bit right now..what is OPK.? OEM Presentation kit.??

i got a full install OEM. New 1TB WD Hard Drive.. I'm all ready to go and see this OPK warning on the box. saying i needed to install OPK first.

what is this.? is there anything i should know about it.. before messing something up real bad.? I've never heard of it before.

thanks

passn_thru2,
Would you let me know how you make out with that?
I am thinking of using OEM myself. Have used in the past without any problems.

if you get the 3 pack or some versions of win7 you get the IT OPK pack as well...

you install this on your SERVER to deploy the OS Over the LAN...

you do NOT need it or should you install it if you are only doing 1 rig and doing it manual...

the OPK kit allows you to install the OS on serveral rigs all at the same time...this is more for volume builders...

it is just there different downloads, ambiguous descriptions of what they do.. I'll let you know how it goes..

i have installed a lot of MS software.. i never enjoy it.

what i was worrying about Formatting my new Hard Drive.. maybe i should do that with my new docking station on my wife's new computer, i built for her. it will take a while to format a Terabyte thru a USB cable..

I have come to find out that installing Win7 64-bit with one stick of RAM works a lot better. That is what I would recommend, then once you have finished the install, shut the PC down and install the other sticks.

i thought there was a format program in the install process.. it is described here..

http://www.sevenforums.com/installat...ew-hdd-w7.html

the "Up-Grade" Windows 7 needs a Window's program to bed on.. i have a "Full download" version.. lots of people were posting they couldn't install on a new hard drive...

I havent formated any drive when installing Win7...I just boot to it and install...

I used to do a Full format in XP but then after Zero filling a drive before I switched to the quick format...

I also use quick format new drives as well...

I have a friend who rebuilt Sun MicroSystems Blade Servers and always did the Quick format and never had an issue so I figured what the heck...he prolly replaced a million drives while there for various companies...

I havent even looked to see if Win7 has the option...?

I just re-installed from the RC to the release version and I just zero filled the partitions windows was going on and installed it...

No need to format. You can if you want after you create the small system partition. The format on Win7 takes a few seconds, depending on the speed of the machine.
