Reboot Issue
Not sure if this goes here but system is a Dell, Win7 Home Pre 64, i7 CPU 960 @ 3.20GHz, ATI HD 5970, 6 gig ram, 1100w psu.
Purchased "Wings of Prey" and during play computer just rebooted, no useful info in event log, had been playing about an hour or so. After reboot, started the game and after roughly 5 minutes, same thing, reboot. Now I'm scratching my head, never heard any fans screaming so didn't think it was a heat issue. Went to game site and found some updates, updated and later that night was playing with no problems, issue solved. Today, problem started again, had been playing about 30 minutes and rebooted. I downloaded Cpuid hw monitor and started the game again, pausing to check temps, gpu never got higher than 82c and core0 was the hottest at 63c and I played about 40 minutes with no problems. I downloaded Furmark and ran a standard 30 minute stress test, no issues or high temps, then a 30 minute extreme burning mode with no issue, gpu got to 84c max. I then remembered I've got 2 gpu's so I ran the mulit-gpu extreme burn test but got a reboot after roughly 3 seconds so I tried the multi-gpu standard and it ran about 1 minute before reboot. No way with reboots that quick its a heat issue. I really hate to have to deal with Dell, does anyone have any idea or some other troubleshooting steps I can take before I have to make that call. Thanks for the assist. p.s. No problems playing Crysis, Aliens vs Predator, ect and my older Area 51 plays Wings of Pray with no problems. Thanks again Last edited by usnavyretired; 02-28-2010 at 06:27 PM. |

You can try making sure the game is running the latest patches and install the latest video card drivers.
But...since the rebooting happens across the game and the burn-in tool, I'd suspect one of the GPUs on the card is faulty.

Possibly faulty memory. Test each stick of ram individually with memtest86+
All the components of your system came stock? ie, didn't upgrade ram, etc? |
